“Go fast enough to get there but slow enough to enjoy the view.” Unknown
Have you ever done a 40 yard dash or a 100 meter sprint? It’s over rather quick and your only goal is to get to the finish as fast as possible. You can’t miss much in 10 seconds. I think many of us try to live our days in sprints when in fact we should look at life more like 100 miles… We are so focused on the finish line of today that we miss the views of life. The views of our kids, views of the sunrise and sunset, all the views life has to offer.
I have lived the last 13 months living each day as a sprint to get as much done as possible. Running, work, and everything that goes into life… Except I’ve missed so much with my kids, my friends, my family. I was so focused on sprinting to the finish that I forgot to take a moment and enjoy the view. My life has been a whirlwind and disorganized always jumping from one task to another always doing but never enjoying. I’ve taken very little time for myself. I’ve missed an entire year of watching my kids grow up. I’ve missed the little details of life because I was always running from one task to another…
Please don’t take this wrong, I’ve had many adventures, met many great people who have turned into family, seen the highest mountain tops working toward my goal. But when it comes down to it, I’ve missed out on some of the most important things in life… Many people have asked me what’s next? What’s after Leadville? Will I be back next year? And quite frankly, I don’t know. For now, I’m going to spend some time with my boys. I want to take them adventuring and rekindle my relationship with them. I want to spend some time watching sunrises and sunsets on my feet without worrying about times or distances. I need to get my life organized again so I can work on my professional goals. I won’t quit running or the work I do for Run Epic, I promise! I plan to take more selfies, explore new places, and enjoy life for a while. I might even play a round of golf or two. Haha.
When the time comes to take the next step, I will see where life takes me. If Leadville 2018 is meant to be, my name will be pulled in the lottery. If not, I will find an adventure that is sure to bring a smile to my face. No matter what happens, I will forever be grateful for my experiences over the last year and wouldn’t give up the adventures, the friendships, and overall life experience!
