If you know me or my process at all, you will know I am nothing special. I have created some success and failure in my life. I have hit some good times and bad. I have seen the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.

I work hard, but I don’t ‘grind’.

I accepted a long time ago there are people who are smarter, faster, stronger and can just flat beat me at the quick fixes and instant results. I knew I couldn’t keep up. I discovered very early in my adult life that I needed a process that I could learn to follow every day… There are a couple concepts I learned and they have carried me over the highest mountain tops and lowest valleys and I want to share them with you today.

Commitment and Consistency

Making a decision to move forward is the first step toward a better future because if you don’t have a commitment to where you are going, you will get bored all fall off before you can create the habit of consistency that will carry you forward through setbacks and adversity.

There have been a few times in my life that I snapped and in the moment in time, I made the decision to change. The day I stepped on the scale at 400 pounds, the morning I quit at 1:20am in Leadville, in the fog of a hangover when I realized I had driven my car home drunk the night before and the day I knew I had given up my personal power to the insecure little boy who screams for unhealthy love and attention from all the wrong places…

These are the major decisions that have shaped my life… but there is one thing they all have in common. I have had to hit a pain point so strong that I was no longer willing to accept the poor behaviors and action. I had to decide and commit to changing my mindset followed by taking positive action. It was in the decision that I committed to a new action in a more positive direction.

Once I made the decision and committed to changing my action, all I had to do then was take new action in the new direction consistently every day. Commitment helped me build consistency because the days I lost focus on my action, my decision kept me moving forward. The days I was tempted to fall off, my commitment pulled me back on track until one day the process of consistency built a habit as solid as a mountain. Once the new habit was solid, I was able to increase my action and build on the foundation of self-confidence with increase courage and strength toward an even bigger set of goals.

Without commitment, I would have never been able to create the consistency needed to stay focused toward my goals. Without consistency, I would have never built the habits needed to succeed. Learn to commit and take action toward the process of success. Learn to fall in love with the process and the process will fall in love with you.

Those who can learn to commit to consistency will eventually be overtaken by success.
